PROJECT CASE STUDY

Abruzzo (PSR)

Whilst it’s a small airport, PSR plays a vital role in transport and aircraft connections for the region of Abruzzo and its neighbours.

Built in 1996, PSR was extended in 2011 and restructured in 2018. This was primarily to ensure it could cope with the increase in the number of passengers – mainly due to low-cost airlines such as Ryanair operating out of the airport.

THE CHALLENGE

As part of its 2018 restructuring PSR needed to make sure it was meeting International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations.

Because of the design of its taxiway, it also needed to guarantee its lighting was delivering 10 Lux with a 0.25 uniformity at 120m from the high masts already in place. Not an easy task or common ask. This was a specific requirement from the airport to make certain taxiway markings were clearly visible.

Another challenge that needed to be taken into account was the environmental conditions. Being close to the sea, corrosion was an issue and any lighting installed would need to be able to withstand it.

And, as with any new airport lighting system, glare had to be kept to an absolute minimum.

THE SOLUTION

The Titan Series – our flagship line – was the perfect solution for PSR’s needs.

Designed by our in-house expert engineers specifically for high mast and large area lighting, it delivers the maximum level of performance possible. So, all IACO requirements were easily met.

Tried and tested in some of the biggest and busiest airports around the globe, the Titan Series has proved its reliability time after time. Its stainless steel construction its exceedingly robust too.

And thanks to our specially designed optic lenses it allows clients to achieve the light levels needed with less power and fewer luminaires – all with the lowest glare possible.

The combination of all these benefits meant we could replace PSR’s outdated and inefficient lighting system with just 18 Titan 720 luminaires split over three poles.
