Midstream Lighting, a world leader in LED lighting technology, has been announced as the winner of the new “Sustainability” category at the prestigious Inter Airport Europe 2021 Innovation Awards.
Appearing for the first time at the Innovation Awards, the Sustainability category seeks out “visionary, innovative and striking new ideas, products, and services that are providing sustainable solutions for the future airport”. Midstream won the award for its adaptable and powerful Mobile Tower Series, which can reduce typical energy consumption by up to 70%.
“We’re always delighted to have our work recognised, but to receive an award for sustainability-related issues is something that we’re particularly proud of,” says Yuli Grig, Commercial Director at Midstream Lighting. “The aviation industry has a critical role to play around decarbonisation, and products like our Mobile Tower have been specifically designed to help airports meet their sustainability goals without compromising on performance.”
The Mobile Tower Series, part of a larger portfolio of aviation-focused products from Midstream, employs an adjustable 9-metre hydraulic mast and utilises four of the company’s high-efficiency Titan floodlights. The Mobile Tower is commonly deployed at airports as a way to commission Code F and Code E aircraft stands that are in compliance with ICAO and EASA regulations.
From a sustainability standpoint, one of the Mobile Tower’s key features is the use of high efficiency LED projectors with proprietary asymmetric optics. These deliver the requisite light levels for a large area such as an apron, while using only a fraction of the energy that is traditionally required.
The M-Hybrid unit present in the tower also combines a diesel motor with a series of rechargeable batteries – reducing fuel usage, minimising CO2 emissions, and helping to limit noise levels where required.
“Innovation is one of the cornerstones on which we’ve built the Midstream business,” continues Grig. “Our Lighting Design Team is made up of a group of talented, dedicated individuals who are committed to developing new and better solutions that work harder for our customers and are kinder to the planet. This award is testament to both their hard work and their passion for progress.”
The Inter Airport Europe award represents another key milestone in Midstream’s sustainability journey. The company signed the Climate Pledge in September of this year, committing to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 – 10 years before the Paris Agreement requires. In doing so, Midstream joins the likes of PepsiCo, Colgate-Palmolive, Visa, and more.
Midstream Lighting will be exhibiting at Inter Airport Europe 2021, and can be found on stand 1518 in hall B5 from 9th – 12th November. Join us for a celebratory Happy Hour at 4pm!
