Midstream Lighting shortlisted for British Engineering Excellence Awards 2022

Midstream Lighting, a world leader in LED lighting technology, has made the shortlist of the influential British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAs) for its new Modus R1000 Floodlight solution.

The BEEAs have been a benchmark for great British engineering design for over a decade, recognising product excellence and the best designers working in the UK. Entries are judged on a range of criteria including an innovative approach to addressing customer need, the adoption of new manufacturing techniques and successful market introduction.

Named on the Engineered Product of the Year shortlist, Midstream’s Modus R1000 is designed to deliver the ultimate high mast retrofit lighting product for critical infrastructure markets. Customers include commercial and military airports, logistics hubs and large deep sea container terminals.

Lighter, more compact, more powerful and more energy efficient than any comparable product on the market today, the Modus R1000 has already achieved considerable commercial success across the world since its mid-2021 launch.

“We’re delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious award,” says Paolo Corno, Technical Director & Co-Founder at Midstream Lighting. “Innovation and engineering excellence are at the heart of everything we do here at Midstream – and the Modus R1000 perfectly illustrates this. But more than anything else, it solves a real-world customer problem by taking a different approach.”

Conventional LED lighting solutions often require significant infrastructure change – being too heavy to be installed on existing high masts and lighting towers. With the costs of change prohibitive, older, inefficient and often non-compliant lighting remains in place.

The Modus R1000 solves this problem by using premium components and high-grade materials not typically used in lighting to ensure lightweight construction. And by starting with the luminaire then designing the most efficient body around it (instead of the conventional approach of using mass produced bodies), customers get a high lumen, long-life and low maintenance product in a lightweight package.

The result is a floodlight that can be easily and safely retrofitted to existing infrastructures – resulting in a cost saving of around 70% over traditional models.

The winners of the British Engineering Excellence Awards 2022 will be revealed at the gala lunch on Friday 18th March at The Landmark Hotel in central London.
