The challenge
There were three main challenges facing GLA:
- Firstly, they needed to make sure they were fully compliant with CAP 168 on their apron areas.
- They needed everything completed before the opening of the Commonwealth Games in 2014. A big ask!
- And finally, they wanted to reduce their energy use by 20% compared to 1990’s levels. We helped them to meet these challenges.
Our solution:
The solution our Lighting Design Team came up with involved cutting the 236 sodium projectors to just 164 LED 400W Luminaires. This reduced the total absorbed power to 67kW from 173kW. As well as doubling the light levels, with this solution the energy savings were over 60%. And we had everything completed well before the first Commonwealth athletes touched down.
